Icefrog revealing the style of the new hero that will be added on
v6.65. His name is
Nightcrawler and
as it seems, he will be a DPS hero. In fact, i wo
uld risk guessing he will be an Agility hero. If so, there will be a new Agility hero in dota, after such a long time, at last...
Nightcrawler is the new Hero in dota map 6.65 as the teaser is shown below by icefrog himself. Surely icefrog keeps the change s hidden until the final release is out but never the less this teaser is surely to crawl up on your bed until its final release.Sicarius - The Nightcrawler
Ra

Primary: AGI
Str: 20 + 1.5 | Agi: 18 + 2.5 | Int: 18 + 2.3
Damage: 50 - 60 | HP: 530 | Mana: 234
HP Regen: 0.85 | Mana Regen: 0.73
Attack Speed: 1.45 | Armor: 4
A creature birthed in an ancient slime pit, the Nightcrawler is a truly unique specimen. Having no real place in the ecosystem of this world, it travels from place to place, leavin g a swath of plague and devastation in its wake. When it is confronted by its foes, it has many abilities - a vampiric attack that leaves the target reeling, a poisonous coating that greatly disables its attackers, but last and worst of all, a special ability that renders the victim spasming in pain while the Nightcrawler moves in for the kill...
Blitz Blitz (T)
Th

Level 1 - 450 range, 75 bonus damage and 10% lifesteal.
Level 2 - 500 range, 100 bonus damage and 20% lifesteal.
Level 3 - 550 range, 125 bonus damage and 30% lifesteal.
Leve l 4 - 600 range, 150 bonus damage and 40% lifesteal.
Activates when clicked, if there are no heroes to target with this then it will say so and not cast.
Mana Cost: 120
Cooldown: 20/18/16/14
Framework: The Nightcrawler flies into the air like Toss and comes down on the target with a Bloodbath effect, no earthshocks though. The target hero is picked at random (if theres only one hero then its not much of a randomization obviously) out of all enemy heroes in a cone in front of the Nightcrawler - the cone measures 450/500/550/600 range radiating out from a 90 degree angle (45 to either side).
Notes: Du ring the night, the target will be the hero with the lowest current hp in the cone. The lifesteal only lasts for the one hit with the bonus damage - ie, if you have lvl4 Blitz and 75 damage a hit, you will hit them for 225 damage and heal yourself for 90.

Pois onous Hide Poisonous Hide (S)
A hero that attacks the Nightcrawler comes off worse for it as the poisons coating its body end up on the attacker, inflicting more return damage with each attack. The counter is reset to zero two seconds after the attacker's last hit. 10% per strike for m elee and 5% for range.
Level 1 - Stacks 3 times maximum.
Level 2 - Stacks 4 times maximum.
Level 3 - Stacks 5 times maximum.
Level 4 - Stack s 6 times maximum.
Mana Cost: NA
Cooldown: NA
Fram ework: Poison effect on attackers and a buff that says "Poisonous Hides lvl 1/2/3/4/5/6" based on their personal counter.
Notes: Basically its passive return damage, but it stacks. If the [melee] attacker hits the Nightcrawler 6 times with Hide lvl4, he will take 10% on the first hit, 20% on the second, etc. If he were to attack a seventh time, he would still only get 60% as that is the cap. If there is a space betw een attacks that lasts longer than two seconds, the counter is reset to zero. If multiple heroes were to attack the Nightcrawler, they would have their own individual counters.

Venomous Barbs Venomous Barbs (V)
The Nightcrawler coats his barbs with a potent venom that is particularly effective against higher lifeforms, but it usually fails to penetrate their defenses. When it does, it deals 2.5 times normal damage. Much higher chance to penetrate at night.
Level 1 - 4% chance during the day and 10% at night.
Level 2 - 6% chance during the day and 15% at night.
Level 3 - 8% chance during the day and 20% at night.
Level 4 - 10% chance during the day and 25% at night.
Mana Cost: NA
Cooldown: NA
Notes: Pretty pathetic during the day but at night the overall damage increase is just above Jugg ernaut's critical and second only to Mortred's. I have a table.
Induc

The Nightcrawler flings at an enemy a needle covered with a unique mixture of toxins, increasing their attack power by 50% but causing them to spasm when dealt enough damage by an attack. Spasm deals 150 damage and inflicts a ministun. Lasts 12 seconds.
Level 1 - Spasms occur when the target is dealt damage greater than or equal to 25% of their maximum hitpoints.
Level 2 - Spasms occur when the target is dealt damage greater than or equal to 20% of their maximum hitpoints.
Level 3 - Spasms occur when the target is dealt damage greater than or equal to 15% of their max imum hitpoints.
600 casting range.
Mana Cost: 200/260/320
Cooldown: 90/75/60
Framework: Shadow strike framework except a purple framework over the victim instead of green.
Notes: Spasms only occur as a result of attack-based damage, not spells. This spell has power late game as it is percentage based, but also early as it can inflict serious set damage as well.
Discussion:
Intro:
I did a lot of background research this time around... For starters, the name "Sicarius" is the scientific name of a real spider, Sicarius hanhi or the six-eyed sand spider - the word "Sicarius" itself is Latin for 'murderer' or 'assassin', which was too good to pass up. Then the Poisonous Hide defensive skill, I derived from the tarantula's ability to flick painful stinging hairs from their abdomens at attackers' faces - both are a kind of return damage. The Blitz skill is simply pure spid er behavior - jump at some hapless target and sink your fangs into it. Finally, for the ultimate I wanted something that made the victi m spasm in pain, so I looked up spasms and there was a line near the bottom that said "Some argue that hysterical strength is a type of spasm induced by the brain under extreme circumstances." complete with that hyperlink: basically, in some conditions people can get super-powered but at the risk of tearing apart their muscles and joints like in spasms.
All that explained, this hero can be likened to as a cross between Broodmother, Nightstalker, and Venomancer - spider, lifesteal, stronger at night, and poison. What is unusual is that despite having three poison skills, this hero does not actually have a slow on any of them.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
* Above-average base movespeed (310).
* Above-average base attack damage (50-60).
* Excellent skill synergy
* Good early game skill (Blitz) and good late game skills (everything else).
* Ult imate powerful at all stages of the game.
Cons:
* Horrible range (300).
* Blit z limited by the random targeting.
* Poisonous Hide limited by your low Strength gain.
* Venomous Barbs ineffective during the day.
* In duce Hysteria useless if out-leveled/farmed.
* No inbuilt slow or disable.
* No inbuilt escape mechanism.
Skill Description and Synergy:
Blitz
Blitz is not really a part of the main synergy, rather an initiator/pursuit/finishing skill. It also doe s heal you from the lifesteal. Its sheer power is balanced out by the random factor (during the day).
Poisonous Hide
Poisonous Hide works out to be a regular return skill, nothing more.
Venomous Barbs
Venomous Barbs is yet another critical skill, but the interesting bit is how it fluctuates between night and day. During the day, it is by far the weakest pure-critical-skill devised (Lycan's critical is lousy as well, however it is but one part of the super-powered ulti mate), but during the night it is, as I said, second only to Mortred's crit.
The table below is based on maximum level skills. Note that not all of those skills are pure critical skills but have other attributes as well (I have marked these with a *)
Hero Chance to Critical Critical Multiplier Overall Damage Increase (times normal damage)
Naga Siren45% 1.5 1.225
Juggernaut 36% 2 1.36
Pan daren Battlemaster* 20% 1.8 1.16
Bounty Hunter* 15% 2 1.15
Chaos Knight11% 3 1.22
Lyc anthrope (Shapeshifted)* 10% 2 1.1
Phantom Assassin15% 4 1.45
Skeleton King15% 2.75 1.2625
Nigh tcrawler (Day) 10% 2.5 1.15
Nightcrawler (Night) 25% 2.5 1.375
Nightcrawler (Average) 17.5% 2.5 1.2625
And for some reason the average has the same overall damage as Skeleton King's.
Invoke Hysteria
Induce Hysteria I had a lot of fun designing. In the end, if you are approximately the same level as your target, it triggers spasms more or less whenever you or someone else gets a critical - unless either you or an ally has huge or double damage, or the victim has really low hitpoints, in which cases it triggers nearly every hit. Overall it doesn't really work well on tanks.
This is the skill that the synergy revolves around!
Skip the examples if you are bored or hate maths:
Exam ple one - Nightcrawler is lvl7, has 75 damage per attack, and has lvl1 Hysteria and lvl4 Barbs. Hysteria is used on a hero with 600 max hp. 25% of 600 is 150, and a critical works out 2.5x75 to equal 188 damage. Therefore, a critical will trigger a spasm for another 150 damage and a ministun. If Hysteria was used on a hero with 800 hp, 25% would be 200 and the critical would not trigger a spasm.
Examp le two - Nightcrawler is lvl13, has 90 damage per attack, and has lvl2 Hysteria and lvl4 Barbs. Hysteria is used on a hero with 1000 max hp. 20% of 1000 is 200, and a critical works out 2.5x90 to equal 225 damage. A critical would trigger a spasm. If the hero had 1200hp, 20% would be 240 and a critical would not trigger a spasm.
Example three - Nightcrawler is lvl25, has 120 damage per attack, and has lvl3 Hysteria and lvl4 Barbs. Hysteria is used on a hero with 2000 max hp. 15% of 2000 is 300, and a critical works out 2.5x120 to equal 300 damage. A critical would trigger a spasm.
Exam ple four - Nightcrawler is lvl25, has 120+150=270 damage per attack. Hysteria is used on a her o with 3600 max hp. 15% of 3600 is 540, and a critical is 675 which would trigger a spasm.
So you can see how the skill is more or less the same difference over the course of the game - it works excellently on low hp heroes, and as the game goes on, the definition of 'low hp' changes. The factors to work in are your items and your level - if you farm a bit, and get a decent item or two and a level advantage, almost everyone will have 'low hp' and your criticals will be massive and therefore trigger spasms on a greater percentage of heroes.
If yo u get outfarmed, the skill will be much harder to use effectively.
Why does it give the victim bonus damage? While one could say this balances it, when you use this on the person attacking you, they will receive the bonus damage and get further damaged by your return skill!
After the recent post from IceFrog about Nightcrawler video, i make some search and find some interesting facts. Looks like the Nightcrawler is already appear on Dota 6.55b hidden on -SD mode. And some people manage to capture a screenshots and write some explanation about his skills. Of course, the upcoming Nightcrawler on Dota 6.55b can be a totally different from that version. But, who knows ^^?
Murloc Nightcrawler
Strength – 23 + 1.9
Agility – 26 + 2.1
Intelligence – 20 + 1.7
Base Movespeed is 310, and the attack range is 128 ( Melee )
Nightcrawler
The first skill is an enemy unit targeteable, about 1000 range, and you charge against the enemy unit with windwalk, a lot of movespeed and leave a dark trail behind. When you charge the unit and you go across any enemy unit, it gets some kind of "curse" and it deals 10/20/30/40 damage every second for 6 seconds. And there is more, you can cancel the charge and run away, so you can go windwalk for about 20 seconds and lots of ms (25 seconds cooldown) (he has a base ms of 310, with windwalk it gets 465 oO) but then you can't spread this "curse".

Well, seeing the description of Nightcrawler skills from back there, it looks similar to the video on IceFrog blog although not completely same. On the video, we know that the Nightcrawler attacking the victim without revealing himself. But, i think it's worth to mentioned because there are some similarities, become invisible and leave a dark trail.
