Zachary Levi (Less Than Perfect) plays Chuck Bartowski, a nerdy computer tech who has a database of government secrets downloaded into his brain. Chuck soon finds himself recruited by John Casey (Adam Baldwin), a veteran NSA Agent, for espionage work with his new partner (and first date in 10 years) Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) - leading Chuck to live a split life of computer geek and secret NSA missions.

Chuck, Sarah, Casey and Morgan are sent on a mission to stop Dr. Stanley Wheelright from releasing a toxin that causes nightmares. The mission makes Team Bartowski suspicious of where Chuck's Mom's allegiances lie. Jeff and Lester make Halloween plans for the Buy More while Ellie and Awesome get a visit from Awesome's mom.

Dr. Wheelwright is testing a toxic gas that causes one's worst nightmares to come to life. We find out that Chuck's mom is behind this poison. She is looking for a buyer, which is why she called Chuck. She set up a meeting with Chuck. Before the meeting happens that night, Sarah and Chuck's mom meet have their guns out, pointing at each other. Chuck is not happy to learn that his mother is working undercover with Volkoff and that she set Chuck up as a fake buyer. Chuck meets with Mr. Wheelright and Chuck's mom arrives and shoots Chuck. Luckily, he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Morgan is happy that Chuck found his mother, where Casey is not. At the Buy More, Big Mike gives the job of decorating the store for Halloween to Jeff and Lester. Later, Chuck's mom takes him at gunpoint. She tells Chuck that her work with Volkoff was too deep to walk away from and that if she could do things over again, she would never have left her family. She shoots Agent Carmichael to protect Chuck and Ellie from Volkoff. Just before Chuck's mom exits, Chuck asks her to go see Ellie for a moment because she is pregnant.

Ellie is surprised by Devon's mother, who is already preparing for the birth of and spoiling her unborn granddaughter. Wheelwright sets off the detonator and exposes the toxic gas to himself and Chuck. Through this, Chuck still manages to save Sarah. Wheelwright overcomes his fears and brings Chuck to the Buy More. Jeff and Lester showed everyone a slideshow of what Wheelwright is frightened off. Casey finds out that Chuck's mom has been lying; she has been with the bad guys for years now. He does not tell Morgan, but he tells Sarah. Sarah decides to go reveal the truth, just as Ellie is about to see her mother. Chuck has to reveal the truth to Ellie which breaks her heart.
